The operating challenge
A monitoring workload struggled to complete within its required execution window, with database contention and delayed reporting.
Monitoring is useful when its processing cadence supports the operation. When a cycle takes longer than the interval it is meant to serve, delayed results and competing database work become part of the engineering problem.
The engineering intervention
The implementation introduced batch sizes, execution threads and processing parameters that administrators could configure through the application interface. Offline-device work was separated into its own processing workload. This case describes that high-level intervention without reproducing internal infrastructure or system diagrams.
Contribution and context
This case covers the founder’s monitoring optimisation work during corporate employment.
The outcome
The founder reports processing time reduced from over five minutes to under one minute for a workload of approximately 20,000 devices.
Technology and scope
- Java extension
- Configurable batch processing
- Concurrent execution
